Limestone Calculator
Calculate crushed limestone volume from your measurements, then add the product's bulk density if you also need an estimated weight.

Enter your measurements and calculate to see volume in cubic yards, cubic feet, and cubic metres.
How this calculator works
Enter each area's shape, measurements and finished depth. The calculator multiplies area by depth and gives the volume in cubic yards, cubic feet and cubic metres.
Volume = Area × Finished depth
Area and depth must use compatible units. The calculator converts them for you.
About limestone
Crushed limestone is sold in many sizes and gradings, from clean stone to products with fines. Each is a different product with its own bulk density.
Specific gravity is not bulk density
You may see a specific gravity (particle relative density) for limestone rock. That describes the solid stone, not a pile of crushed stone with air between the pieces. It must not be used to turn cubic yards of crushed limestone into US short tons or metric tonnes — ASTM test methods treat these as different measurements.
For weight, ask your supplier for the bulk density of the exact limestone product, and whether it is loose or compacted.
Common uses
- Paths, walkways and pads
- Driveway surfaces and bases
- Drainage stone, depending on grading
Comparing sizes? See the Crushed Stone and #57 Stone calculators. For other materials, use the Gravel Calculator.
Worked example
Example: walkway 25 ft × 4 ft at 3 in deep
- Area: 25 ft × 4 ft = 100 ft²
- Depth: 3 in = 0.25 ft
- Volume: 100 × 0.25 = 25.0 ft³
- Cubic yards: 25.0 ÷ 27 = 0.93 yd³
Result: 0.93 cubic yards (0.71 cubic metres). The depth is an example input.
Frequently asked questions
How much does a US short ton of limestone cover?
It depends on the product’s bulk density and your depth. Calculate the volume here, then use the Gravel Tons-to-Yards Calculator with your supplier’s density to compare US short tons and cubic yards.
Can I use limestone’s specific gravity to estimate weight?
No. Specific gravity describes solid rock. Crushed limestone includes spaces between pieces, so its bulk density is lower and depends on grading and moisture.
Does the calculator know different limestone sizes?
No — size does not change the volume, and there is no reliable generic density for any size. Enter your supplier’s density for the size you buy.
